I wanted to let everyone know that Bottlecount.com is back up.

What happened, was that the server that hosts Bottlecount.com got hacked. No Bottlecount data was compromised (it gets backed up nightly anyway). Instead the hacker was more interested in flooding somebody's network than doing any damage to our server. Precautions are being taken to make sure this does not happen again.

This should not have taken this long, and for that I apologize. It has been a very crazy month. By day I'm the VP of Technology at Topix.net and that keeps me pretty busy.

Thanks for everyone's patience, and for the offers of support and help!

Bryn:

I have been a user for a while now, so first, thanks for a good system. Having a listing of my wines accessible from anywhere is really nice.

I have a few things on my wish list for the system (of course some of them may be in the system and I just haven't figured out how to use them yet). I'm not a coder, but will help in any other way that I can. Here is my wish list

1 - a link/button on the users cellar list that lets you 'check out' 1 bottle - so that if I grab a bottle I don't have to decrease it using the update wine page - maybe it could open a window that would let you add personal wine notes as well.

2 - a default view that lets me filter out wines that have a quantity of zero - I like to be able to go back and look up some wines that are gone - but I don't need to see them all the time on my cellar page.

3 - I have a number of large and small format bottles - so I would like to be able to add the size column to my reports

Again - thanks for the great system - and let me know if I can help make any of those wishes a reality.

Rob

Those are all good suggestions.

I've added #3, so you can list the size of the bottles in the report. I'll see what I can do about fixing #1 and #2 as well...

Thanks for adding the bottle size. That is nice for me as I have a number of various bottle sizes. Is there a way for me to tell bottlecount that I want that in my default view?

Thanks again for looking at the other two as well.

Bryn,

Glad the system is back up! You've done a wonderful job with this database.

I have a collection of about 125 bottle, and I am still looking for ratings, I've added a 'R-' prior to rating to signify my rating on bottle I've had. Your system takes you a wine site to locate wine, and if you want to lookup then it takes you to WineSpectator, a pay site where you can seek a wine rating. What about searching your system for wine ratings of same vintage.

All users welcome to look at my list and let me know if the know of any WS ratings for wines I don't have a rating for (including self-rated 'R-').

Have a great Thanksgiving, Christmas, and new years!

Reed
