My mother-in-law asked me about a bottle of Mateus. I've tried looking around the Internet, and all I can find out is that it is generally a low-end import. Still, I'd like to find out more about it for her. It has no vintage or bottling date, but she says she got it as a wedding present 32 years ago. It has (amazingly) been stored in a cool closet (51 degrees) on its side the entire time, so I'm not worried about spoilage. What does anyone know about this wine? Any help, as always, is appreciated.

If its really been at 51 degrees the whole time it should be OK. 55 degrees is "cellar" temperature, and even at that temp wines will mature and age very slowly.

Rose though is not a known for its aging characteristics. I wouldn't count on it to be any more drinkable now than when it was stored 32 years ago.

You'll never know until you open the bottle....

mateus is an inexpensive wine meant for immediate drinking. doesn't have the tannins to make it even a year ;(

We would really like to hear what you have to say
