I have not had the 97 RWT.

I have had the 98 which was an excellent wine fom an excellent year. However, the 97 was a very good year for Barossa Shiraz too.

The RWT is the little brother to Grange and is Penfolds making a pure Barossa Shiraz. Some people say they prefer the RWT to the Grange!

I find the RWT is very heavy on the oak and at the time it drowned out the beautiful fruit you could taste underneath. If you can afford to wait 5 years for the oak to soften a bit I suspect it will be excellent.

Penfolds web site www.penfolds.com.au has tasting notes on all their wines and suggested cellaring times.

Jon.

The 97 is explosive and will certainly round out a bit with age. It certainly is a mouth full and currently think the 97 will age better than the 98

I agree with your comment Jon, RWT & Grange are both Great wines. The quality is very close but the price isn't. Grange for $150 or RWT for $65

Sacrifice very little in taste - save a bundle in the wallet. This makes RWT very popular. IMHO

I agree it is very good value for money. Unfortunately there are too many people like us who have relaised this!

Grange has stayed about the same price this year but the 98 RWT has gone up to AU$165 or roughly $95 US. If you can still get the 98 for $65 US I suggest buying up big!

We would really like to hear what you have to say
