I really like the concept of this site. In trying to enter my cellar the majority of the numbers on my bottles are an EAN rather than UCP. I have had a quick look around and cannot find anyway to easily convert the number. (It is easy to convert from UCP to EAN). Has anyone else had this problem?

By EAN, you mean a European Article Number right? Living in the USA, I don't see many of those.

I would suspect that you can't convert between the two. Do you have any information about the EAN format?

Yes.

There is a bit of information around and apparently you can convert a UPC to an EAN by adding 0 to the front of it. Some detail on how the number is made up can be found at
http://www.ean-int.org/faqadc.html

However, having looked a little further I suspect there is no easy way to convert from an non-US EAN to UPC, unless someone has on online database. There does not appear to be any link between the EAN and UPC number on the same bottle of wine.

Does the place where you get your UPC information also have an EAN database?

It's a shame becuae I really liked the linking features to ratings and other info.

This may be what you need:

Hi,

I'm new to the site (just started adding wines, using my cuecat scanner). I noticed the same issue with EAN numbers.

I have a number of French and German wines in my cellar, and they all have EAN-13 codes instead of UPC-A.

Here's a website that gives more info on how the EAN-13 number is actually made up:

http://www.barcodeisland.com/ean13.phtml

Would it be possible to allow both EAN-13 and UPC-A barcodes to be used on the site?

Michel

It's not too hard, the hardest part will be meshing with the current UPC codes. I'll look into it.

Could you please post a few example EAN-13 codes for me to test with?

OK, maybe it was a lot easier than I thought. I added a fix to allow 13 digit "UPC" codes, this should allow EAN-13 to work. Please let me know if the works and/or breaks UPC codes.

Most of my wines are purchased directly from the winery! They don't appear to have a UPC!

This is a great site, and a much easier way to manage my cellar than most of the expensive commercial wine cellar software.

One suggestion would be to add a "+/-" button on the cellar listing page which would allow a user to update the quantity of a particular wine without leaving the cellar listing page.

Hi
where can I get a CD of UPC codes and the prduct description that they cover. I am trying to install my own point of sale system at my liquor store, and I need to make the process easy by uploading the UPC information, and then scan the items into the computer and enter the price and quantity. But I do not want to have to start from scratch.
Is there such a thing for sale? or can I just down load that info?

Thank you

Hi everyone, i'm new to this and being a lazy indivudual i have been trying to get the barcodes on my bottles recognised rather than type in loads of data. All of my wines are from Europe and I can't seem to get any of the codes to match. The bottlecount database which could provide the answer seems to have been down for the last few days. Anyone had any success with Eurpoean codes? An example would be this 1977 Chateau Latour Pomerol, no 3 364610 008854.
