The 1999 Casa Lapostolle Clos Apalta (Chile- Blend) is spectacular...silky smooth, well integrated, inky dark colors and a heavenly nose (all at around $48/btl). The '99 Konsgaard Chardonnay ...terrific bottle, nice wine but $86...way too much, especially when you can get into a Rudd Carneros for under $30. Dessert winos...give the 2000 Inniskillin Vidal Icewine a go. Medium sweet, good balance, pear, apricot, hint of citrus or tart apple. The '97 Baumard Quarts de Chaume is also very good..tamer flavors, not cloying in the least..has an odd 'cellar scent'? on the nose...not bad just different. Compared the '98 and '99 Luna Merlot(another Konsgaard effort... much more reasonable @ aroung $25/btl). The '98 was only fair, already a brownish tinge in the color, light medium body and an unremarkable nose. The flavors were simple. The '99 had a much better red-purple color, clear and bright flavors and much better balance. Nice currant, cedar, grape and dark berry notes...easy price, easy drink. Cheers...

Wow! Quite the collection. Did you drink these all on the same day? ;)

I have to agree with your notes on the Inniskillin Icewine. When I got it, I didn't know what to explect, but it was an outstanding desert wine. It made me realize I don't drink enough dessert wines. They can be the perfect finish for a good meal.

Not on the same day! Wouldn't have been able to taste anything... I really enjoy sharing wine (especially good wine) with friends and family. One friend once said that his family always had wine on the counter..."hearty" and "not so" and it came with a neat little handle built into the neck!

I love dessert wines and the Canadian Icewines are a personal favorite...it's almost as much fun looking for them as it is to drink.

I also enjoy Inniskillin and you can usually find it at bargain prices (~$50 Canadian) at the duty free shops on the US/Canada border. The one on the way to Montreal from New York for example. Other than that I've had to buy it at Morrells in New York City.

We would really like to hear what you have to say
