We had this for New Years. FANTASTIC!! The aroma of cherries and red fruit poured out of the bottle when the cork was removed ---> It filled the room. Colour was bright shiney red, no signs of age here. Perfect balance of cherries, current, red fruit and tannins. Long lingering finish. Just a GREAT bottle of wine. I'm happy to still have two more : )
I've had them since release ~13yrs.. We also had an '84 Mount Veeder. Aroma was vegetal, very green. Turning a nice brick colour. Took a while ~45min., to open up. Fruit and tannin were fading. High in alcohol. NOT what I expected from a mountain cabernet, should have aged better :(
If you can find any, the 1998 BV GdL got a bad rap for being potentially corked, but I had 5 or so and all were very nice. The distributor was blowing them out for only $25 a bottle and a few retailers had it for $39.99.
I also got a couple of the 1974s from an inept wine store that had them in the back, but were only selling the low end BV line. They gave them to me for under $10. If only they had more...
We would really like to hear what you have to say
