| Wine Notes: | The dense ruby/purple-colored 2001 Rioja Reserva exhibits a sweet, intense nose of melted licorice, road tar, truffles, black currants, cherries, and hints of smoky, toasty oak. Dense and medium to full-bodied, with moderately high tannin, it should be cellared for 1-2 years, and drunk over the following decade. This large 72-acre estate’s youngest vines are 33 years old, followed by a parcel of 45-year old vines, and two large parcels of 73 and 96-year old vines. The wine is kept one year in tank and then moved to small barrels where it spends another two years before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. (WA) WS Generous and well-structured.
