| Wine Notes: | Delicate and ethereal. A fine example of traditional white Rioja, with nutty honey and dried pear flavors that linger endlessly on the finish. Not a powerhouse, but rich with flavor and finesse. Drink now. 5,000 cases made. Rated as "Highly Recommended" (Source: Wine Spectator, November 30, 2001). The current winemaker at R. Lopez de Heredia Viņa Tondonia is Maria Jose Lopez de Heredia. This wine was made before Maria's time but it is a fine example of Viņa Tondonia's past. The wine is made exclusively with the Viura grape (a.k.a. Macabeo). It spends at least two years in barrel and then another period in bottle before release. Our panel's tasting note: Medium gold colour with aromas of lemon zest, binned apples and toasty oak. Dry, forceful, toasty/fruity. Full-bodied with a very long finish.
