Wine Notes: | Muscadel is the South African name of the noblest for the Muscat grapes, Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains. Tasting note: [Robert Frost's quote] "We love the things we love for what they are" adorns the back label, [perhaps] hints a cellar philosophy: good ol' (white) muscadel made (seriously) better. Latest 1998 [has] honeycomb richness; sprig spearmint a cloy-buster spirit rush reminds this is 'sweet dessert liqueur wine'. Aperitif, restorative over crushed ice, chilled with biscotti, sabayon-napped summer fruits, delicious any way. (Dave Swingler, John Platter South African Wines 2003) (Source: Vintages, October 4, 2003). Comments on 1996 vintage: This sweet wine has a lot of white peach and kumquat flavors, with a soft texture and an easygoing finish. 465 cases made. (Source: Wine Spectator, April 30, 2001). |
