Wine Notes: | The Château is a beautiful 17th century brick and limestone mansion, called a 'chartreuse' in Bordeaux. It is surrounded by 62 hectares of vineyards and parkland. The legendary 'flying winemaker', Hugh Ryman, is the consulting winemaker. The blend in their red wine is 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 3% of Malbec and Petit Verdot. (Source: Vintages, April 5, 2003) Good colour. Lots of ripe Merlot fruit blended with Cabernet Sauvignon. Score - **** (out of 5). (Steven Spurrier, www.decanter.com, April 2000) Comments on winery: Beautiful riverside chateau owned by Gilbeys 1975-2000. New Owners, so watch this space. Well-made Crus Bourgeaois and Sauvignon Blanc White from 155 acres. (Source: Hugh Johnson's Pocket Wine Book 2003) |
