Wine Notes: | In 1993, after sailing all over the world for 6 years, John and Jennifer Joslin purchased 20 acres (8 ha) of land in the legendary Marlborough region. The vineyard is called 'LeGrys', after Jennifer Joslin's maiden name. Like many of the top New Zealand wine producers, Mud House uses a Stelvin cap closure on their Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling to avoid troublesome cork taint. To add a layer of complexity to the wines, a small amount was aged in French oak. A portion of those oaked wines also underwent the acid-softening process of malolactic fermentation. Our panel's tasting note: Pale straw colour with aromas of gooseberry, fresh herbs, hawthorn, guava and passion fruit. Dry, crisp and clean with good aroma replays. Balanced and nicely structured. Medium full-bodied with a lingering crisp/fruit finish. (Sept. 2002) Food match: asparagus and stir-fried shrimp. (Source: Vintages, June 2003). Comments on 2001 vintage: Bright and zippy, balancing its pear, grapefruit and apricot flavors enticingly against a sharp edge of lemony acidity. Delicious and invigorating. Drink now.4,000 cases made. (Source: Wine Spectator, July 31, 2002). |
