Wine Notes: | The prestigious name Michel Torino is actually an amalgam of two winemaking families from Cafayate. In 1892 David and Salvador Michel planted the first vines and established Bodega La Rosa. When David married Gabriela Torino, the company known as Michel Torino was created. The soil of Cafayate Valley in Northwestern Argentina - loose, nitrogen-balanced, permeable sandy soil - is ideal for growing superior varietals. The combination of an altitude of 1700 metres above sea level, a climate of hot days and very cool nights, and carefully controlled irrigation adds up to the production of some great wines. Our panel's tasting note: Deep ruby colour with aromas of tar, blackberry, bacon and cocoa. Dry, rich, ripe, plump with generous fruit and very supple tannins. Medium full-bodied with a very long finish. Food match: barbecued salted beef. (Source: Vintages, April 5, 2003 release) |
